The strength of Long Gully Grove's branding lies in its iconic representation of the olive grove and its location. The design features an icon that portrays the grove's position on the banks of the Blackwood River, with seven trees symbolizing the different types of olives used. This unique visual element sets Long Gully Grove apart from other olive oil brands, capturing the essence of the grove's natural surroundings.
Adrian Fretwell, the designer behind Long Gully Grove's branding, meticulously crafted the icon using Adobe Illustrator. The font choice, Rosella, perfectly complements the icon, giving the design a distinctive and sophisticated edge. The label itself is printed on metallic foil stock, with the white and black elements covering the stock and a four-color process overprint creating a stunning copper tone.
The new branding elevates Long Gully Grove's products, providing a visually appealing and memorable experience for buyers. The label's metallic copper finish for the icon, combined with the black matte finish, creates a luxurious and premium look. Additionally, the lamination on the label ensures that the oil does not stain or damage the design, maintaining its pristine appearance.
The design process for Long Gully Grove's branding started in mid-January 2018, with the final label design being printed in mid-March 2018. Research played a crucial role in the development of the design, with Adrian Fretwell studying the grove's location on the banks of the Blackwood River using Google Maps. By comparing the grove's position with the sunrise and sunset locations, the iconic hill and seven tree elements were born.
Long Gully Grove's branding design successfully captures the essence of the olive grove and its unique location. It tells the story of the grove's heritage and commitment to producing the finest quality olive oil. The design has been recognized for its excellence, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category in 2019. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
